My friends often make fun of me because from the moment January starts, I don’t shut up about summer. I tend to struggle with seasonal depression, and one of the only things that keeps me optimistic is the excitement and love I have for summer. My mood truly depends on the weather, and lately it’s been really hard to exude sunny energy when the sun isn’t even out. January and February are the worst because it’s really gray everyday, and walking to class is just depressing. However, if you also struggle with this I am here to hopefully give you some hope and excitement for the warm and sunny days coming up! First, it’s important to remember that everything is temporary, and although it seems like we haven’t seen the sun in months, it will eventually come out. During these dreary days, there are still some things you can do to add a bit of light to the slow and cold winter. Some of my favorite things to do during these months are take naps, drink tea, and facetime old friends. In addition, I love journaling and creating mood boards to help inspire me and keep me motivated. Obviously, doing all these things can’t always bring my mood up in the same way that the sun can, but thinking about how the summer is coming does. So if you are struggling with the gray weather, here is your reminder that beach days, picnics, sunsets, tan lines, and warm weather is just around the corner. Use these short winter days to focus on yourself and your energy because before you know it you will be spending nights with your best friends on the beach in love with life and not focused on anything but the next beach day. Don't worry summer is coming!
